Squash???

To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to inform you of an incident that occurred last night, Friday 9th October, to which I am deeply disappointed.
I had a squash court booked from 6:40pm to 8pm and, upon arriving, it became apparent the University Squash club were on the court that was booked for us. Upon asking them to leave they said that they had the court booked from 6-10pm. Thus I went in search of confirmation from the receptionist that we had indeed booked the court and so I returned to speak to the representative of the Squash Society, and re-asked them to leave, but again to no avail. They refused to leave, repeating that they had it booked. After arguing with “Barnaby Smith” for 20 minutes, wasting 20 minutes of our allotted time I might add, we grudgingly agreed to leave and play in the morning, simply to avoid continual confrontation and because we didn’t want to play with the whole squash team watching us.
Upon returning to the desk to re-book our squash session, the Receptionist was very helpful, offering to have the Society removed from the courts. Yet with half an hour of our eighty minute session already elapsed it seemed futile, so we continued.
I feel very disappointed with the preferential system that seems to be in place at the University. Whilst I understand the importance of the Squash team to be able to train, I don’t agree with the arrogant manner with which we were discarded by the Squash team representative, and feel that if he is the Universities ambassador for the sport than there is certainly a lot to improve upon with regard to his interpersonal skills.
It is not simply his rudeness that has infuriated me, but also the blatant indifference that was shown to our evident waste of time. Whilst the two other people that I was due to play against are my housemates, due to our differing timetables it is difficult to organise set times when we are all available to play.
Such farcical belligerence has severely affected my faith in the University Sport System, and has further led to me seriously considering my membership renewal which is due in a mere matter of days.
Yours Sincerely,

James Ames.

When will it end?

so think i have hit an alltime low point in my life, i can handle the losses of a night at luton and shake them off knowing i had a good time but atm im just getting sucked into a spiral of depression that feels almost imposible to get out of!

its not anything major that has set me like this its just tends to be little things that slowly put me down and atm its just one thing after another when will it end??

but on a better note i start lectures in the morning and im looking forward to seeing all the old faces a bit more. i feel like i need something to concentrate on so that i dont keep going over these small things in my head and making more of a deal out of them than they are.

played poker last night for the 1st time in about a week just had a small deposit online to play my mate HU it went good with me catching nice cards and getting him down to his last $4 untill he sucked out on me with Q3 v my QJ but i got him 3 hands later hitting a 4 outer on the river all in pre flop with 96 (tilt call). i then spun my £10 deposit up2 £50 going all in blind every hand untill eventualy i got cought out on a $180 pot i should have sucked out and won rele!! it was prob because i looked at my cards before going all in should never do that when ur making a silly run at 1k from £10 LOL.

so my 1st day of year 3 tomorrow got a 9am start and dont finish untill 3!! i know all u workers out there will say only a 6 hour day but for me this is alot in one day! atleast i have wed and fri totaly off. lets hope things pick up going to wake up with a fresh attitude and try not to get worked up over small things.

peace out!

New house, new start

so I moved into my new uni house on Sunday and to say it was a disappointment would be an understatement imo worse than the last place but i didn’t come to view it with the boys as i was fed up with trying to get things sorted so left it up2 them, so i cant complain!!! one good thing to come out of this house is the rent is only £265 a month not the £290 i was told resulting in about another £300 left out my loan although i will either blow this on poker or nights out.

the worst part is sleeping on a mattress where the springs dig into your back like knifes i keep trying to get laid to solve the problem of sleeping on it but that hasn’t gone to plan!! the rooms are all good size and we even have a spare room for when my many m8s come to stay to relive their uni years through me the only one from home still here as i have had to do like 10000 years due to shit a-level results and shit teachers who didn’t give a shit about me at school just wanted me to do a trade like this body could handle that!! but enough of the rant I’m on course to move onto the Meng next year as long as a keep my grades up!!

got my individual project list today have like 70 to choose from but alot of them are bridge design as most people tend to get boners over them like they are going to be the next Joseph Strauss. i will be happy to do something that i can get stuck into and get to know inside out as we only have 7/8 months to do it.

i need to go and speak to my head of department about my options for this year and if he feels they are the right ones for my progress to Meng next year as I’m getting a bit worried that i will move up and everyone will have a different base knowledge to me, but it does mean i will have to do 2 dissertations over this year one in the summer holidays, thank god don’t think i could handle another 4 months of laying on my ass reminiscing on the holiday to Benicassim festival i had at the start of the summer.

been a good week for my squash bet i have with a m8 got 1 year to beat him in a best of 5 didn’t think this was possible a few weeks ago and still feels a long way off but i have a good training partner. Managed to get 3 sessions in this week so far and hitting the ball a lot more confident all be it a bit high still. still got a way to go but it would b nice to get this win out the bag and get one up on all the people who think I’m shit at all sports.

not been any news on the poker front this week just been getting drunk and making a general fool out of myself but i have started to accept this drunk side of me and starting to embrace it!

off to watch the Everton game in a bit and i think another drunken night but my head of department is getting the beers and lunch in tomorrow for the whole department so that should be a good hang over cure

ops just posted this to the wrong page lets hope this time works??

Peace out. x

Start of year 3 of uni

hi so this is my 1st real go at blogging and I’m going to get this out the way now this will probably be used to vent my anger as a bustout poker player!!

so the summer started good and things were looking up I was in about £600 worth of profit within like 2/3 weeks of being back from uni had big plans of Vegas the lot. as you can tell this all fell apart and this is how it happened

it all started when I called an all in for a £300 pot with a straight flush draw during the august fest at Luton (oh yea Luton is my degen place of choice I find the regs there a good laugh even when they are fishing on you for £500) on a paired board thinking I might still be frav only to find out he had me crushed and I was only drawing to the flush and 3 to the straight. so this was the start of my downfall I then went on to bust out of about 7/8 tourneys because I would sit down in them and end up dreaming of the lure of the cash game going on in the background! I was doing ok at the cash game making about £1k in total for the summer then life took a turn and my landlord decided he wanted his rent! this wasn’t good and put me a further £300 out of pocket and with fresher’s week of my final year coming up I decided I just could not afford to play anymore as I want it to be a big 1!

lucky for me I have a mate who has recently made it as a pro poker player so there was a few buy in's in the pipe line for me. I decided that I would take it seriously and try and take down a tourney as I get mocked for my lack of tourney cashes and the short story is I made the final table of 1 with my AKs getting beat by AQo putting me in a dismal 9th. the villain even had the cheek 2 scream QQQQQ all the way down to the river then hitting it. the next tourney I play I finish 16th losing a 28k pot that would have put me in chip lead to AJo with my AQ0 he hit his 4 card flush and I delt it too!! then a final one I played I played like a total loser all night and managed to somehow get my short stack in V 10 3 when I had A3 only for him to hit the 4 outer

so after this for some reason my friend decides to roll me for a cash game and 4 hand in I do my usual trick of putting someone on a hand then trying 2 bluff them off and giving up when the scare card hits I managed 2 build my stack back up with what I thought was a bluff on one bloke only to see another bloke call and the original raiser who I was trying to push off fold and my 2nd pair was somehow good when he missed his flush draw even though I hit 2 pair on the river. I then get moved to the main game and to my right is the biggest fish sitting on a 700£ stack I lick my lips only to see him leave 3 hands later. I then get my best hand of the night QQ and with a £150 stack 3 bet some1 and somehow got the pot heads up (at Luton this is rare) only to see him tank then go all in I think I must be ahead because he has thought for so long and I call he then turns over QQ as well everyone has a joke ha-ha he then says well I could still hit a flush and low and behold 4 card flush comes gg I can’t help but blow up and storm off. with the recent run of luck I have been getting I don’t blame myself! we then hit the pit and somehow build up enough to get us back in the game so I sit for a second time about 5 hands in I flop 2 pair and a short stack of about £60 shoves all in to a pot of £36 its folded round to me and I call only to see him turn a bigger 2 pair beating my top and bottom gg

the rest of my night is filled with watching huge pots being played by total donks who are beating all the regs but my friends runs over the table and despite being in the game for £500 with me and his buy ins still manages to walk away with a nice £95 profit that made me feel better as I would have been gutted to lose him £200 when he needs a new pc to take this online deal to the next level.

so I go back to uni in the morning and after the run I’m having in the card room it couldn’t come soon enough. need to get back to the daily grind of drinking and lectures! going to hit fresher’s big and get pissed as much as I can then settle down to try and get the 1st I need so I can do a masters. bad news for me is a new card room is opening in pompy so think I will have to check out the tourneys there or get a job. but the good news is I can’t run worse so let’s hope I can take down a few when I’m at uni and put off getting a job for another year!
